Inclusive Education – How we can help you

If you have any of the following:

  • Specific learning disability – (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, executive function disorder, perceptual disabilities, brain injury)
  • On the autistic spectrum
  • ADHD
  • Physical or mobility difficulties
  • Illnesses
  • Mental health conditions
  • Chronic anxiety
  • Hearing or vision impairment
  • Surgery
  • Pregnancy
  • Temporary impairment (broken limb, concussion, etc)

Then you may be eligible for the following support:

  • Test and exam arrangements (separate room, extra time, rest breaks, etc.)
  • Flexible deadlines
  • Leniency with spelling and grammar
  • Mentoring
  • Equipment
  • Accessible parking spaces
  • Assistive technology

What do you need to do? 

Email inclusive@lincoln.ac.nz and we will arrange a time to meet with you – if you have confirmation of your diagnosis, please bring this with you. If you don’t yet have a formal diagnosis and are on a waitlist, please contact us as we can support you in the interim.

How Inclusive Education support works

In order for us to deliver support, various people who work for the University will need to know. However, you can be sure that only those who need to know will be told, and they will respect your privacy.

There will be nothing on your academic record or on your qualification to show that you have had support.

Inclusive Education complies with the Health Information Privacy Code (1994).

Disability Action Plan (DAP)

The Disability Action Plan (DAP) is an important part of the University's commitment to equity of access for all learners. The DAP focuses on creating an inclusive and accessible environment which enables disabled tauira to participate in all aspects of learning and research including cultural, social, on-campus accommodation, and extra-curricular activities.

Students are at the core of the DAP and it was developed in close consultation with tauira and staff. 

The DAP’s primary objectives are to:

  • Deliver equity for disabled tauira and staff through an accessible and inclusive teaching, learning, research and working environment.
  • Develop an environment that celebrates and values disabled tauira and staff.

To achieve these objectives, the DAP works across six key focus areas. Each focus area has a detailed list of goals and action items, which are aligned to both the Kia ?rite Toolkit, a code of practice designed to achieve an inclusive and equitable tertiary learning environment for disabled learners, and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.

The first four focus areas are descriptive in their actions:

  1. Training and capacity building - To enable staff to understand and meet the needs of disabled learners.  
  2. University of choice - To encourage all students, regardless of ability, to select 草莓视频APP官网 as their university of choice.
  3. Accessible technology - To ensure all systems and learning material is both available and accessible to all students.
  4. Accessible environment - To embed the ongoing provision of an accessible environment as part of our Campus Master Plan and Campus Development.

 The last two focus areas include implementation processes and measurement:

  1. Implementation Strategy - To demonstrate our commitment to the Disability Action Plan through timely and effective implementation.
  2. Monitoring and Review - To demonstrate our commitment to the Disability Action Plan through formal monitoring and evaluation of student progress.
